Viagra Roll only at Sake Maki!

Sake Maki Japanese Restaurant Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoI saw an ad in the KILP magazine that Sake Maki has opened up a second location on Broadway. At first, I thought it was a typo, and even looked up on my phone dictionary. Yup, they served ‘Viagra Roll’. Wow…talk about freedom of speech. I on the other hand was a bit speechless. The roll consists of oyster and salmon tempura.

Since we were in the neighborhood of the one near Commercial, we went to that one to check out this roll! Luckily, they were doing a special, so we were able to get 2 special chef’s rolls and a 3rd for FREE! Awesome deal. We ordered the Vancouver Roll, Rainbow Roll and of course, the Viagra Roll. (each $8.95)

When we got there at 6pm on a Sunday, the restaurant was empty and wondered if that was a good sign…however, by the time we left an hour and half later, it was nearly full. So I guess we were just early.

Rainbow Roll

idearabbit-sakemaki_comm3My favourite Vancouver roll in front and Rainbow roll in behind.

When we I ordered from the waitress, she seemed quite shocked and started laughing. “Whaaat?” I was confused…maybe it was a typo? But their website and their sandwich board outside the restaurant mentioned it too. My company took the server out in front of the restaurant to show her the sandwich board. “This is why we came all the way here.” They both came back into the restaurant. The server was laughing “Sorry, today’s my first day working here.” Oh…I guess that explains it, but still, how could you start working and not know about it…it’s not everyday you see such a roll.

The Viagra roll we can to check out!

The Vancouver roll was my favourite. The salmon on top was really good. Everything was fresh and light. The Rainbow roll was also good. And yes, the Viagra roll was good too. I’m not a big fan of sushi with a lot of sauce in it (hence why I like the simple, natural Vancouver roll the best), but the sauce, oyster and tempura salmon mixed well.
