Kitano Donburi

Kita No Donburi on Urbanspoon

I’ve done here quite often. Run by Japanese people, the food is very authentic. Usually, there is a 50 something Japanese woman with a bandana to hold her hair, greeting you with a husky “Irasshaimase” (welcome).

Their system has slowly changed over the years. At the beginning, you were suppose to line up at the cashier and order+pay. Perhaps this isn’t uncommon at food courts, but at a restaurant, it was odd indeed – though not in Japan. There are  many places that you order+pay first, though those were usually lower end restaurants. You also had to get your tea or water yourself.

Now you can sit down, and a server will come to take your order and provide you with drinks. You don’t have to pay until you finish your meal. They are usually quick and always full of energy. Very friendly. I’ve tried the Spicy Tuna Don 3 times. It comes in a traditional container – very unique. The rice can sometimes be too hard, but overall, the taste is good.

Hambaga Don (hamburger on rice) $8.95

The decor inside is interesting, especially the dangling miso soup ‘chandeler like decor’. The food is alway fresh and tasty. Prices aren’t bad either. It’s a ‘different’ kind of restaurant, so try it out.

Note: they are closed on Sundays!
