Updates to IdeaRabbit #3

Moving up on Urbanspoon! Yes, in update round #1, back in January 2014, I was still at #85. Now, I am at #34!! Thanks for reading guys! :D

Updates to some of the older posts to IdeaRabbit.ca:

nut_allery_allery_icon_smallAlso, since I’m allergic to nuts, especially peanuts and hazelnuts, and often times, it’s difficult to know if certain dishes have nuts in them. So starting late May, I have added a Nut warning icon in my reviews. Of course I will still talk about it in the review, but I thought it would pop out more and be helpful for those who are severely allergic.

If you have any suggestions or comments on how the blog could improve, let me know! Thanx! :) Happy reading~

Bubble World in Richmond

Bubble World Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato A group of us had just played the Murder Mystery Game that’s popping up in Richmond (the one we went to was Freeing Canada) and we wanted to grab a bite afterwards, so we headed to Bubble World. It was quite full and busy, but we managed to get a 8 person table right away.

I had the Beef Noodle. It was decent size, but I find it to be drowning in the sauce. It wasn’t anything extraordinary – not something I would order or come back for.

Sheepie ordered the Three Sauce Chicken $7.95. Good price for the portion, but the veggies were cold, the chicken was boney – not the kinds that we like. Sheepie kept complaining it was garbage.   We both don’t really like oily, greasy meat dishes that are full of bones and fat. It’s just our preference. My Chinese friends love those pork knuckles…argh…no no for me.

idearabbit-bubbleworld idearabbit-bubbleworld2 idearabbit-bubbleworld3The interior was fine and had a decent seating capacity. Not much to say about service. Some of the other’s dishes, especially the hot pots looked quite impressive, though can’t really comment on the taste. The slush that some ordered were huge! Wow.

Return
A friend brought us back for a late afternoon ‘lunch’. We got a table right away, as the staff pointed to a table on the other side of the room.

idearabbit_bubble-world20 idearabbit_bubble-world21I ordered the Pork Dumplings $4.95. It didn’t come out nicely as it did in the photo from the menu, but still, it was plenty for a pretty inexpensive price. It was juicy, and the sauce and dumplings would have definitely gone well with some rice! Service was ok. The place was kept orderly and clean despite the busy atmosphere.

Espana

Espana Restaurant on Urbanspoon

I met up with a friend who suggested Espana. When I got there around 6:45pm on a weekday, there were only 3 small tables left available. By 8pm, the place was jam packed and the noise level got a bit too much for the both of us by 9pm. But that was ok, since we were done eating and chatting by then.

It’s a hip/modern tapas place. Cozy and a bit cramped, though I guess that is to help strangers come together and talk, which did happen.

We ordered 4 dishes:

  • Salt Cod & Potato Croquettes $8
  • Sauteed Fiddlehead with poached egg, serrano ham and mojo rojo $10
  • Grilled Asparagus and Leek with quail egg, manchego and romesco sauce $11
  • Frito Mixto $13 with halibut cheeks, asparagus, anchovy stuffed olives, salsa verde

idearabbit-espana3The Cod Croquette was really yummy. Super crispy and hot inside – nicely fried. The cod went well with the potatoes, and the lemon juice gives it a nice zesty punch! The mayo on the side is nice for those who rather not have any like my health conscious friend. I used only a bit.

idearabbit-espana5The Fiddlehead was an interesting dish. A new dish added to my menu. I had seen fiddleheads before, but I don’t recall ever trying them. It was bitter, but tasted healthy. It went really well with the thinly sliced ham and oozing yolk of the poached egg. At first, we didn’t know it was an egg because if was breaded and deep fried. I liked it so much, when the neighbouring gentleman asked what I’d recommend, I suggested this dish.

The Asparagus and Leek looked really good, but unfortunately, I was told that this has almonds in the sauce. It doesn’t say on the menu, but after my friend started eating it, she noticed that it had some kind of nuts. We asked our server, and she was right. I tried eating parts that didn’t have any sauce on it.

idearabbit-espana6The Frito Mixto was another dish that was all deep fried. My friend wasn’t too happy about this as she is quite health concsious. The dish was quite delicious, though after a while, yes, the deep fry can be a bit heavy. The olives are tasty!

Overall, I was pretty happy with the food and service. Our server was quite pleasant and was concerned about my allergies. I would like to go back to eat the Cod Croquette and Fiddleheads again. Oh, and of course new dishes too!
