Yak & Yeti Bistro

Yak & Yeti Bistro Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato I had a Groupon and so Sheepie and I went for dinner. I wanted to try their specialty which was the Yak Momo. Unfortunately, the voucher required us to get an entree each, so Sheepie ordered the Masala Fish $15. A dish served with local fish semi-stewed in Himalayan-style curry with assorted vegetables. It was buttery and rich. Very delicious!

idearabbit-yakyeti idearabbit-yakyeti2 idearabbit-yakyeti3I had the Jackfruit Curry $14 which had green jackfruit cooked with bell peppers, onions, basil and special Himalayan spices. This was also very good, but I have to admit, I did like the Masala Fish better.

idearabbit-yakyeti4Tingmo $3

Both entrees comes with rice which quickly filled us up.

The server recommended trying Tingmo $3, so we ordered one. It was like a cinnamon bun, but not sweet. It was interesting, but since I’m not much of a bread person, I gave most of it for Sheepie and enjoyed my rice instead.

The place has a really nice chill-out atmosphere, inside and out on patio. It’s clean and well kept. Sheepie approved. It wasn’t busy, so it was nice to enjoy a quiet dining experience. The service was satisfactory.

Would love to come back again to try different dishes, especially the Yak Momo!

Nao Sushi

Nao Sushi 直寿し on UrbanspoonI somehow had the preconception that this restaurant was slightly higher-end place, so I was a bit disappointed to find that it wasn’t. The interior was simple with not much decor. Rows of tables and chairs which were quite packed already. It seemed a bit stuffy inside.

I was 20 minutes early to see my acquaintance, but I was seated at a table near the bar, with the grey dish bins across from my view. Without being asked, the server brought two cups of tea. Surely, the tea would be cold by the time my company arrived.

The place was quite busy, so I felt a little bad for taking up a table as I waited, but most of the people lining up were waiting for bigger than ‘for 2′ tables. Unfortunately, my acquaintance wasn’t going to be able to make it at the last minute, and so our meeting was called off. I didn’t want to walk out without getting any food as I had driven all the way here (out of my way), so I ordered a Negitoro roll $2.50 and an Alaska roll $3.95 to go. The wait time for take out was alright. Service depended on who you were dealing with.

The food was good and was inexpensive. It was an average sushi place. Would I go back? Maybe, if I was in the area and craving sushi.

Naam Restaurant

Naam on UrbanspoonSheepie and I just happened to pass by this restaurant after dining at Yak Yeti. It was around 10pm, but it was jam packed with hustling servers who were dressed in hipster clothing which you can easily confused as a customer. Our server was the oldest, and seemed like a manager. He was friendly, but did not look at us in the eye once, or even in our direction for that matter.

idearabbit-naam3Since we were full after the dinner, we only had a tea $2.95 and a Raspberry Chocolate Cake $6.75. It was toppled with frozen raspberry bits, and I didn’t find the cake to be any good. I couldn’t believe they were charging nearly $7 for it. Terrible.

idearabbit-naam4It was a bit run down, the table wobbly and a noisy atmosphere, so it was not my cup of tea. Sheepie on the other hand was reminiscing a cafe similar in Berlin (Schwarzes Cafe) which he used to go to, late at night. Naam is open 24/7.

I have read some good reviews on the food they serve, but not really interested unless a friend drags me there. Maybe it’s not fair just to judge on their dessert…but other things didn’t really wow me either.

Second Time

So a friend’s friend wanted to go to Naam, raving about the Sesame Fries. It was close to midnight, but since it was open 24-7, five of us got in the car and off we went.
The place was jammed packed as last time. The friend who said he was a regular when he lived in the neighbourhood said it was always like this. But the wait wasn’t too long, only about 5 minutes or so. The food on the other hand took quite a while. I’m pretty sure they don’t cook the rice and beans from scratch for every order, so putting together the dish should take no more than 10 minutes (and that’s already quite enough).

idearabbit-naam5First of all, the presentation was a disappointment. Sheepie’s Pita Pizza Bread $5.50 with cheese and tomato sauce on a pita looked plain and unappetizing. Sheepie’s pita was burnt black on the bottom…he also said overall, it wasn’t good. Well, compared to the pizzas that he makes from scratch, this was a disgrace.

idearabbit-naam6The friend’s Sesame Fries $8.75 – which were not fries but wedges looked also unappetizing. Sure the taste with miso gravy and cheese was interesting and good, but no points on the look. The fries alone without miso gravy and cheese would have been $5.75, so the extras are a bit pricey.

idearabbit-naam7The friend who was a regular, recommend to us the Dragon Bowls. The rest of us three decided on getting the Mexi $11.25 which had organic rice, chipotle chili, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, beets, guacamole, miso gravy, salsa and cheese. It was quite filling, but for the taste, I would rather go to Chipotle which has a richer flavour and costs less. I’m not sure what they’re trying to do with the Chinese plastic chopsticks and bowls, but it was certainly not Chinese cuisine. Sure it seemed healthy, but I wasn’t sold as the ‘awesome bowl’ that I was expecting.
Service by staff was variant on the individual.
I thought my first review was unfair since it was only for tea and cake, but now that I was able to assess the other dishes on the menu, I can confidently say that I wont be returning.
