Esthetico Salon & Spa

I have been to this salon & spa several times now for eyebrow threading. It’s only $8 – the cheapest one I know of in Vancouver…and especially in downtown. Conveniently located on Burrard and just off of Davie St.

The lady who does the threading can be sometimes hard to catch. I don’t know how many times I went in there, only to be told that she was on vacation and would return a week later. A week later, I returned and was told the same thing. There are three young ladies that work there but none of them do threading. It looks like a family run business…not very professional by the least.

The name ‘salon’ and ‘spa’ makes it sound glamorous, but it’s far from anything but glamorous. It’s very small, and as some reviewers have pointed out in the reviews on yelp, you wonder about the cleanliness of the place. But there are usually one or two customers having their pedicure or manicure done.

The threading lady doesn’t speak while threading, which is fine with me. I don’t think she speaks that much English for that matter in the first place. The first time I went, she was on a bluetooth phone, talking in Chinese the entire time to someone – definitely not a customer…likely a family or friend.

They don’t give you a receipt…not sure if they’ll give you one if you asked one…I never did…didn’t bother.

I still go back, simply because it’s cheap, in my neighbourhood and she does a fairly good job.

CHIMERA – Fashion Show JCI

So my good friend Melody Young, graduated yesterday along with the other students of Class 138 which hosted CHIMERA – a fashion show. It was not only an opportunity to celebrate the hard and long days at John Casablancas Institute – a fashion, make up and hair school, but also to showcase their talent, and give back to the community by donating all net proceeds from the event to Covenant House, an organization helping underprivileged youth in Vancouver.

It was on Thursday, November 22nd at Villa Amato (88 East 1st Ave). Models wore footwear and clothing from sponsors such as Bootlegger, Unique and Trendy, John Fluevog, Alex Folzi -  just to name a few.
I’m uploading pics, but sorry for the really poor quality…>_< my cellphone camera is sucks!! T_T
It was actually my first time going to a fashion show, and it was great! I must say, I’ve never seen so many skinny people! I don’t know how their body survives…lol…I know it’s weird coming from a thin person myself (170cm -42kg or 5’7″ – 93lbs)…but I guess it’s different when you see someone else skinny. I see myself everyday, and have gotten too used to it.
Anyways, it was a very inspiring evening! :)

I bought a threading coupon from SocialShopper for $7. Regular is $15. I was skeptical of buying because of the previous reviews on Yelp, but thought I’d try it out for myself, especially since it was 50% off – and only 7 bucks.

The cashier at the front was friendly when I walked in (though not so much when leaving), but the person doing the threading wasn’t. After it was done, she was a bit rough rubbing lotion around my eyes and forehead… she didn’t clean any of my eyebrows that were threaded, so once I came home, I saw plucked eyebrows all over my face! Embarrassing, after the fact that I had gone to several shops afterward! and when you have black hair – it’s noticeable. She also didn’t do a good job, so I had to use my tweezers once back home for some missed hair.

Verdict: I wont be going back!
