Judge’s Indian Cuisine

Judge's Indian Cusine on UrbanspoonI had been here years ago with a friend, and remembered it being pretty decent, so I got at $15 SocialShopper voucher worth $30 at the Judge’s Indian Cuisine. I ordered the Prawn Curry $15 and my friend asked for a recommendation. The server suggested Malabar Chicken $13. We also ordered Garlic Naan $2.50 and Steam Rice $4.

We sat by the window in a cosy corner. The restaurant was clean and quite comfortable, quite empty, though it was a weekday evening. The servers were professional and very courteous.

The two curries arrived with candles underneath them to keep them warm. The Malabar was super delicious! We hinted at the coconut flavour and my friend just kept complimenting it. The Prawn was still good, but no match for the outstanding Malabar. However, it was full with large and plumpy prawns! Delicious! Both the rice and naan was great – of course especially with the curry.

We were both really stuffed at the end, even though we thought it wouldn’t be enough since it looked as though it wouldn’t fill us up. We were wrong! Regular prices are a bit on the higher side, but then again, you’re getting really good food, excellent service and nice atmosphere. I would definitely return again :)

New India Buffet

New India Buffet & Restaurant Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato It has free parking, which is great, being on Broadway and all. If you sit by the window, you can see downtown and BC stadium – beautiful scenery when everything it lit up at night. The restaurant is big and spacious. The furniture is well built and sturdy. Decor is – well Indian and the place is always kept clean and tidy. It’s a good place for a large group. Once before, we had about 15 ppl, and they were easily able to accommodate.

For dinner, the all you can eat buffet is $15.95 per person (Monday-Thursday) and $16.95 (Friday-Sunday) hours are 4pm-10pm. The waiter isn’t what I call friendly, but it’s alright. For the most part, you serve yourself, so not much interaction with them anyways.

I like the selection you have here, has definitely more than the India Bistro (buffet) on Davie st. The taste may be a little bland at times, but for the most part, I’m pretty happy with what you get and how much you can get for that price. I’ll be returning again as usual.

Voucher Deal

I had a voucher from Social Shopper, so Sheepie and I decided to dine there on Friday evening. They have a good selection, but their taste is not as rich and flavorful as non-buffet restaurant. We had the nice private booth.

There was already a 15% tip added (on the regular price) – for a buffet? Ok, so the server sat us down and took our plates away when we were done, but that’s it. Since they put a pitcher of water on the table, we help ourselves. The food obviously is self-serve. No staff ever came by to ask if everything was ok, or anything.

I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon. The quality of the food isn’t as good as other restaurants. The next morning, I had stomach issues. I know I’m sensitive to spicy food, but I’ve had plenty of Indian before and elsewhere with no problems.

Koko Japanese Restaurant

Koko Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Koko restaurant has enclosed sections for half the tables, making it comfortable for you and your guests to have an private table while you dine. The restaurant is fairly big, but it was more than half empty. We wondered if it was going to go out of business. My guest who had gone there a few times long before me said it looked run down…I could tell that the restaurant has been there for a while, but it wasn’t disgusting or filthy in any way.

koko__menulogo_koko As a graphic designer, I must point out that they have a really terrible logo…I dunno, it reminds me of Midas…an automobile repair shop…very ugly. Awful colours. Nothing about it says ‘authentic higher-quality Japanese sushi’…Perhaps I should go there next time to propose a new logo…and branding…lolidearabbit-kokosushi20

There was only one waitress, but since there were only 3, 4 small groups dining, the service wasn’t delayed or sacrificed. Like an authentic Japanese restaurant, we were given hot wet rolled-up towels to clean our hands.

I ordered my favourite Negitoro roll $4.50 (6 pieces), 1 Tamago $1.50 (egg) and 2 salmon ($1.95 each). My guest had the Assorted Sushi $17.95idearabbit-kokosushi21

Taste is delicious. They use really good nori (seaweed) – a way of telling if they use cheap or high quality food ingredients in their cuisine. The negitoro’s rice is a bit compressed for my liking, but delicious. The salmon is the best that I’ve seen around in sushi restaurants. Not bad for $1.95 either.
My guest’s combo on the other hand is pricey. $18 for 4 rolls and 8 nigiri is a bit high…the quality again is good, but definitely not filling. In the end, with tip and taxes, it came out to be $37. For that price, you can eat at Momo Sushi 5 times, coming out stuffed every time.

Fair prices, very good quality.
