Hanafubuki – CLOSED

Hanafubuki Sushi on UrbanspoonI had never heard of this place until I saw a deal on Groupon for $45 worth of dishes for $22. The coupon included:

  • One tataki salad with seared toro or tuna (a $7.50 value)
  • 12-piece order of fried pork gyoza dumplings (a $9.90 value)
  • One 6-piece california roll (a $3.25 value)
  • One feux d’artifice roll (a $12.95 value)
  • Two small orders of vegetable udon (a $5.95 value each)

The restaurant was super small. 3 tiny tables. 6 people and the restaurant is full. I think that’s why they installed mirrors for the walls, to give the illusion that it was more spacious. However, it was clean.

There were 3 couples, so it was full, and all of us were using the Groupon LOL, so we all had the same thing.

The takaki salad was really good. I tend to not order salad at restaurants cuz I think they’re over priced. Also, other than the fish, you can easily make the salad yourself at home. But since it was already included in the course, I had no complaints. It was really good. Maybe my favourite dish out of all of them. The gyoza was nothing fancy. A bit greasy, and what you might expect from a Chinese run ‘Japanese’ restaurant. The cali-rolls and udon were alright. The feux d’artifice roll was interesting as the server pulled out her torch to torch the top of the rolls. The masago popped as the flame went by.

Overall, we were happy with the food, service speed and the were stuffed at the end. However, for the quality, we thought that the original price was was a bit expensive. $35 would have been more appropriate. However, the Groupon was a good deal. Did the Groupon get a new royal customer? Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be going back. Even with another exact deal, I’m not too sure I’ll jump onto it again. Great service though!

Smart Canucks Website

I just found a cool website that I felt I needed to share with you. You already know that I love discount and bargains, so this site was a sweet find.

It’s Freestuff.SmartCanucks.ca The website is pretty extensive with forums, coupons, flyers, and a freebie section! There’s tons to choose from, so it’ great! I love the flyer section since I get to see the flyers I want to see in one section instead of going to each retail’s website to see their flyer. I also don’t have to fill my physical mailbox with real flyers. Let’s be eco-friendly!

The freebie section has free samples from various big name brands like Calvin Klein, Burt’s Bees, Herbal Essence, and so on!

I have only started to scratch the surface of the website…so go check it out yourself and save! :D

New Gigantic 60″ TV – Openbox.ca

So, we’ve been looking into a big TV for some time. Looking at places like Futureshop and Bestbuy. However, they were always too expensive. So, we checked out Openbox.ca

We got a 60″ Smart TV !!!! for $1000. I dunno anywhere else you can get such a enormous TV for cheaper! This price is if you  purchase with cash/debit card. Otherwise, it’s $1019.99. But even then, that’s a huge bargain!

Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean want cheap products. We took a USB loaded with test files (ie. high res videos, images, different colour panels, etc) since the previous TV had dead pixels that only showed in certain colours. So we had to test it out! We didn’t want to bring back a 60″ back to the store again, so we desperately asked the hesitant manager if we could take it out of the box and try it out.

We went to the Richmond location, and the manager and one staff works there. The manager speaks absolutely no English, so the staff had to keep translating everything both ways. The manager wasn’t happy with us testing out the product, he kept complaining in Mandarin, but we didn’t care. Even if it was significantly cheaper, we weren’t going to buy damaged goods.

We had a bit of trouble with the new remote control, but it’s all been resolved by googling for answers. Yay! Now it’s time to watch some HD movies!!

Oh, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
