Sapporo Sushi

Click to add a blog post for Sapporo Japanese Cuisine on Zomato A small cute restaurant that has an authentic Japanese atmosphere – the interior, Japanese staff and music. Their menu had a good selection of dishes to choose from – nicely presented and designed too.

idearabbit-sapporo1 idearabbit-sapporo6idearabbit-sapporo4I ordered Pork Gyoza (6 pieces) $4.50 which were crispy on the outside and tasty stuffing inside. Looked and tasted authentic.

idearabbit-sapporo2The Takoyaki $5.50 was also very good. Served nice and hot!

idearabbit-sapporo3Negitoro roll $2.50 was very good. No complaints – love the awesome price! Might be the cheapest one in downtown for a negitoro roll!

idearabbit-sapporo5Sheepie as usual ordered a Cali Dyna Combo $11.40 – with California roll, Dynamite roll and tuna, salmon and ebi (shrimp) nigiri. It came with miso soup which was the good quality kind.
Their tiny bathroom had a nice sink that was worth a photo, lol.
Food was pretty good, reasonable prices, satisfactory service and good location. A nice authentic Japanese restaurant – a good find!

Sushi Mura

Sushi Mura on UrbanspoonWe drove by past this place and thought we’d give it a try. We were surprised to see how busy it was. There was a line up as well. There were empty uncleaned tables that made the people waiting impatient.

idearabbit-sushimura idearabbit-sushimura2We got a small table in the corner right by the sushi counter. For Sheepie, he always had servers reaching behind him to take sushi plates laid out by the sushi chefs. (above photo was our view)
The service is what you’d expect from a restaurant that is very busy, though they did manage to keep our cup full of  tea. They were kind of cold and not really friendly.  idearabbit-sushimura5I ordered the Gyoza $3.75 with 6 pieces. It was crispy and hot. Very good.

idearabbit-sushimura3Negitoro roll $2.75. The flavour was good, but the rice was a tad bit on the warmer side…
Spicy Tuna roll $2.95 was average.

Sheepie had the Alaska Combo $8.30, but since it wasn’t enough, he ordered two more salmon nigiris ($1.20 each) afterward.
The prices were really good, though sushi wasn’t all that spectacular. Wont go out of my way to go there though. Too many other places we can go to for sushi.

Gyoza Bar + Ramen

Gyoza Bar Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoMy friend was hosting birthday dinner for her friend, so about a dozen of us were dining at Gyoza Bar. A very trendy and Yaletown-ish restaurant on Pender that just opened in May 2014 – another sister of Minami and Miku restaurants.

From our table, we could see the inside of the kitchen. It wasn’t all that appetizing to see all these people crammed into a little space making gyoza like a factory with their wet blue gloves through the window. I think they should have left out the window. Poor design choice, in my opinion.

Is this necessary for a high end restaurant?idearabbit-gyozabar4 idearabbit-gyozabar5It was full and busy, giving it a very lively atmosphere. I ordered the Free Range Chicken Broth Ramen with Mediterranean Salt base $13.50 topped with Chicken Char Sui and egg. The ramen was good, especially with a hint of garlic in the broth. I’m not sure of the price. I guess being a free range chicken adds cost – plus eating at a higher-end ramenya. I tried a sip of the soup of the miso ramen and it was sooooooo salty. I’m glad I didn’t order that one. In fact, it was miso flavour with a block of butter that you were suppose to melt in the hot broth…ick…For a person who buys a small block of unsalted butter PER YEAR and only uses up to half, seeing a chunk of butter in one bowl was…I dunno, I could almost feel the oil oozing out of my pores…LOL. In the end, several girls who ordered it ended up taking the block out after melting only a bit of it.

To share, we ordered the Fraser Valley Pork Teppan Gyoza 15pc $16. I thought it was a good deal, and it was very tasty. The other specialty gyozas on the other hand were pricey. For about 6-8 pieces, $12 for gyoza was over the top. It was fancy, but I actually preferred the more traditional taste from the Teppan Gyoza instead.

Service was excellent, and the atmosphere was nice, although the AC was a bit too strong on a cool wintery night. Would not mind returning again to give it another try, but keep in mind, you’ll be paying premium (probably the most expensive in Vancouver) for ramen and gyoza.
