Old Spaghetti Factory

The Old Spaghetti Factory on Urbanspoon

Located in the trendy Gastown, this Old Spaghetti Factory which opened on March 22, 1970 is quite unique in that you can dine in one of the old trolleys – though I haven’t had the opportunity to dine in there specifically myself. The restaurant is large, and has an old vintage feeling. There’s usually a line up, and they don’t take reservations.

The menus are printed on old newspaper like paper – which they will reuse, so don’t discard them! The prices are quite cheap, and for most of the menu, they have what’s called “It’s All Included” All the entrées include OSF Classic Sourdough Bread with Whipped Garlic and Plain Butter (they are delicious!), Minestrone Soup or Crisp Green Salad; Spumoni Ice Cream; and Hot Tea or our own blend of Coffee.Dressing choices include Ranch, 1000 Island, Blue Cheese, House Italian or Low-Fat Sesame.

The food is decent for the price you pay for. The menu has a variety of selections/options, so you can come back and order something different every time. The servers are friendly and provide prompt service. The atmosphere is relaxing and a great place to eat out with a group of friends. The last time I went there, they didn’t have wireless transaction machines, so each person had to go up to the cashier to pay. But perhaps that has changed since then.

If you love pasta and a good deal, this place is the place for you.

Esthetico Salon & Spa

I have been to this salon & spa several times now for eyebrow threading. It’s only $8 – the cheapest one I know of in Vancouver…and especially in downtown. Conveniently located on Burrard and just off of Davie St.

The lady who does the threading can be sometimes hard to catch. I don’t know how many times I went in there, only to be told that she was on vacation and would return a week later. A week later, I returned and was told the same thing. There are three young ladies that work there but none of them do threading. It looks like a family run business…not very professional by the least.

The name ‘salon’ and ‘spa’ makes it sound glamorous, but it’s far from anything but glamorous. It’s very small, and as some reviewers have pointed out in the reviews on yelp, you wonder about the cleanliness of the place. But there are usually one or two customers having their pedicure or manicure done.

The threading lady doesn’t speak while threading, which is fine with me. I don’t think she speaks that much English for that matter in the first place. The first time I went, she was on a bluetooth phone, talking in Chinese the entire time to someone – definitely not a customer…likely a family or friend.

They don’t give you a receipt…not sure if they’ll give you one if you asked one…I never did…didn’t bother.

I still go back, simply because it’s cheap, in my neighbourhood and she does a fairly good job.

I bought a threading coupon from SocialShopper for $7. Regular is $15. I was skeptical of buying because of the previous reviews on Yelp, but thought I’d try it out for myself, especially since it was 50% off – and only 7 bucks.

The cashier at the front was friendly when I walked in (though not so much when leaving), but the person doing the threading wasn’t. After it was done, she was a bit rough rubbing lotion around my eyes and forehead… she didn’t clean any of my eyebrows that were threaded, so once I came home, I saw plucked eyebrows all over my face! Embarrassing, after the fact that I had gone to several shops afterward! and when you have black hair – it’s noticeable. She also didn’t do a good job, so I had to use my tweezers once back home for some missed hair.

Verdict: I wont be going back!
