Village Taphouse

Village Taphouse Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato I was attracted to the light tower structure and the romantically lit string of lights in their patio along with the fake, but nice candles flickering on each table.
If you are a sports lover and want to see the game, this place is perfect as they have many large screens.
The atmosphere is lively, and the staff are super nice.
We waited a few minutes as they cleared one of the tables for us.

idearabbit-taphouse5idearabbit-taphouse6I ordered the Sea Chowder $12, while Sheepie ordered the Baja Fish Taco $13.25. The fish taco was under the ‘Handhelds’ section which if you look at the menu, right underneath this heading, it says in red fonts ‘are served with house-cut fries…’, so we assumed that the dish came with fries. I did think it was odd that is said to add fries to the tacos, it was $4. I only ordered the soup so I could munch on the fries.
idearabbit-taphouse idearabbit-taphouse2When the dish arrived, we were surprised and we talked to our server. She said that the taco was an ‘appetizer’, so it did not come with fries. We re-examined the menu together and the server agreed that it was confusing that it was under the main section called ‘Handhelds’ with the added sides. However, the red copy did say ‘BURGERS AND SANDWICHES are served with house-cut fries…’ so tacos are not burger and sandwiches.
After she left and another staff came by, we asked for the fries. We got our fries, and our server told us that the confusion sometimes happen, and it’s understandable, so they would have it on the house. Nice! But really, I think the layout of the menu needs to be redone.

When we looked at the receipt, the fries were $8 – so the appetizer portion of the House-cut Kennebec Fries with truffle lemon aioli and parmesan. It was really delicious. The presentation in a metal bucket was different. Not sure why didn’t get the $4 ‘side version’ to the taco, but then again, the fries was mentioned to another staff, so I guess he didn’t know. However, no complaint as it was complimentary either way.

The New England Style Chowder had plenty of seafood, including chunks of smoked salmon, with side garlic toasts. It was light and not super creamy – in a good way. The flavour was rich and I could see myself eating 2 bowls. LOL. Sheepie, a lover of chowder soup, had a few spoonfuls, and he thought it was pretty good.

The tacos were beer-battered local cod, fire roasted salsa, chipotle aioli, with cabbage, and pickled red onions. I only had a bite of the deep fried fish, but it tasted pretty good.
It was great to have such great service. I enjoyed the food, nice presentation and great atmosphere – not super loud but alive and energetic.
I would definitely come back.
