Nero Waffles on Seymour

Nero Belgian Waffle Bar Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoI love Nero waffles! They’re the best! However, I don’t really like the location on Robson where there are long lineups, and it’s really crammed in the little hole in the wall. Forget about trying to get a table!

So I’ve been waiting and waiting for a really long time for this location to open up. Finally, Sheepie and I went to check it out. A complete 180 difference for this location. The interior is slick, modern and high-end. The 3 booths have a unique side wall that curves into the ceiling. I wanted to sit in one of them, but unfortunately, they were all taken.

We were greeted by a staff who took us to our table. We had a menu set in front of each of us. I ordered my favourite Mocha Waffle $8.90 to share. Sheepie ordered a latte $4. The patio on the side had comfortable show-home looking furniture under infrared heaters. It was tempting, but with the chilly wind, I decided to dine inside.

I thought the price would go up with this extensive (and expensive) reno, but it was still the same. It didn’t have the lineup out the door as the Robson one. Not sure if it’s the location or because they’ve just opened up.

The waffle was good like I remembered it. Crispy and light, the mocha infused cream is also light and fluffy. The dessert is not sweet at all. Perfect for me, not so perfect for Sheepie who loves sweetness. He ended up sprinkling the brown sugar for the latte on his half of the waffle.

The latte art was nicely done, and it was quite strong, so I only had a few sips, otherwise I will end up not sleeping at all. But good strong espresso flavour.

Service was great, like at a higher-end restaurant.

Surely, I’ve found my favourite dessert place! :D

Return for Second Time with Large Group

What great place for dessert after dinner than at Nero’s?

idearabbit_nero_seymour1I again had the Mocha Waffle $8.90 (sorry, just love it too much to try anything new…I know… so bad as a foodie…)

idearabbit_nero_seymour2Sheepie saw someone else eating the Orange Mousse $7.90, so he ordered that one. The server will ask everyone if they would like the Liege waffle (soft and sweet) or Brussels (light and crispy). My Mocha is always on the Brussels. I think Sheepie was too occupied in talking and wasn’t aware that there were two kinds. He probably said he wants something sweet cuz of his sweet tooth. He was shocked when the Liege came out. It was half the size of the Brussels. They explained that it was much more dense than the Brussels, but pretty much the same amount of ingredient. He fought for his Brussels, not so much because he wanted the lighter one, but he complained that it wasn’t fair in portion. Anyways, he did finally win the fight and had his Brussels version made (the photo above). It has fresh cut orange segments with dark belgian chocolate mousse topped with citrus garnish. The cafe did a good job accommodating my grumpy Sheepie. LOL.

Cafe Orso in Deep Cove

Cafe Orso Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoThe wordmark is a bit hard to read, but I do like the cute bear. A wooden carved bear stands at the entrance door to welcome everyone in. As I had read in other reviews, it was slick, modern, and clean. A higher-end cafe than your everyday Starbucks. Yet, it had a very comfortable feeling. The slightly hipsterish staff were bustling around as the cafe seemed quite popular.

idearabbit_cafeorso9 idearabbit_cafeorso12idearabbit_cafeorso7 idearabbit_cafeorso8We ordered the Three Waffles with Seasonal Berries & Cream or Banana & Nutella $12.50. We had the berries. I was expecting an assortment of different types of berries, but it was only strawberries – though there’s nothing wrong with strawberries. It was really delicious. Not too sweet, and the right firmness/density to the waffles.

idearabbit_cafeorso5 idearabbit_cafeorso6 We also had coffee which was super bitter. However, after adding sugar and cream, it was one of the better coffees I’ve had. I’m no expert in coffee since I barely drink them, but my taste buds know which ones it likes. And this one was really good!

The food/drink was great as we chatted and watched pedestrians walk by as we sat by the window. This is a must-visit if you’re in Deep Cove. Yes, slightly different atmosphere from the cafes closer to the water. But if you enjoy hip, modern with a relaxed atmosphere with delightful interior design, check it out.

We spent our late afternoon by the waters, and as we were about to leave Deep Cove, we noticed that there was a live band in the cafe. On their website, you can see who’s playing on Sunday evenings. They recommend you reserve a table as it can quickly fill up!

idearabbit_cafeorso13A week later, we later returned with friends who had espresso, waffles, iced coffee, and I had the Rooibos Latte pictured above. It was creamy and very good. The pot seems small, but it never ran out! I kept drinking and drinking. No refills needed. Love this cafe ♥

Nero Belgian Waffle Bar

Nero Belgian Waffle Bar on UrbanspoonA friend suggested waffles for dessert after dinner and we ended up at Nero. There was a bit of line up and wondered what the hype was about.

Inside was jam packed and crowded – there’s not much to space. We were just lucky to get a big table after cramming into a tiny square side table as we waited for our waffles.

idearabbit-nero idearabbit-nero2 idearabbit-nero5Between the four of us, we ordered two waffles Fruity $8.90 with fruits and whipped cream plus Mocha $8.90 with vanilla ice cream and espresso infused whipped cream and dark Belgian chocolate.

idearabbit-nero3Mocha $8.90 idearabbit-nero4Fruity $8.90

Woo! They looked totally delicious! And the taste? Excellent! As a coffee lover, the Mocha was my favourite out of the two. So good!! A bit pricey for dessert, but we’re seeing a lot of dessert places with meal-like prices. It is also on the busy street of Robson.

I liked it! Though I’m not a fan of the eating area. I would take out, but then all the cream and ice cream would melt…but a great new find! :D
