The Juicery

Click to add a blog post for The Juicery Co on ZomatoA friend had a gift card for this place, so she invited me over to try out their juices. Although I’ve juiced myself before, it was the first time going to an actual juiced exclusive place.
The interior is very open and got quite a character. It has a bit of hipsterish feel, but an upscale version from the look that downtown or Main street has. It was clean, with a large wooden table to relax at and enjoy your juice.

idearabbit-thejuicery1 idearabbit-thejuicery2I ordered the Lemon-Aid with apples, lemon, ginger, cayenne and alkaline water under the Citrus category which is meant for boosting your immune system, hydrating and promoting digestion. They didn’t have a small bottle (250ml) $7, so we both took the large (500ml) $10. Better bargain anyways, and with the cap, you can take home the rest for later.

It was sour (with the given ingredients, not a surprise), with a small punch of spiciness that hits after a while from the cayenne. Very refreshing and great for the hot summer days.

The cold-pressed juice is unpasteurized 100% organic. I’m guessing there aren’t any preservatives so the best before date was in 2 days.

The bottle is nicely designed. Simple, organic and modern with a hint of sophistication. You get your $1 back when you return the glass bottle. Mine is still sitting on the kitchen counter…

Friendly staff and a variety of selections to choose from. Like most other ‘organic’ and ‘health-conscious’ eateries/juiceries, the prices to reflect the quality and effort into making these drinks/food. But one must think not only about the short-term benefits of eating healthily, but the long-term effects and rewards of doing so.

El Matador

Click to add a blog post for El Matador on ZomatoSheepie surprised me with this new find in North Vancouver near Lonsdale Quay. A very small restaurant-bar but with character. Our server was very friendly and patient with our questions regarding the Spanish dishes that we were both unfamiliar with.

We started off with complimentary olives, which were firm and tasty, with a hint of spiciness.

idearabbit-elmatador9idearabbit-elmatador8idearabbit-elmatador1 idearabbit-elmatador2idearabbit-elmatador4Garbanzo Salad $5 was mostly chick peas and raw onions. The strong bitter taste of the onion took over everything else which made it a bit hard to eat it. Sheepie didn’t like it at all, so I had almost all of it to myself. I would not order this again, even though I like these kinds of dishes.

idearabbit-elmatador5Spicy Fried Potatoes $5. Wedges in spicy sauce, though I didn’t find the sauce to be spicy one bit. The sour cream and green onions on top added to the flavour.

idearabbit-elmatador3Crab Taps $7 was flavourful.

idearabbit-elmatador7Chorizo Tapa $7 Not much meat, and the flavour was unmemorable.

idearabbit-elmatador6Shallot and Crimini Stuffed Mushrooms $5 Tasty, and the mushrooms not soggy.

Service was very good and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Great location near the Lonsdale Quay.

North Vancouver’s Twilight Market

Friday Nights 5-10pm – May to September

Every year, I go to two of Richmond’s night markets. This year for a change, I dragged Sheepie out to North Vancouver’s night market instead. It’s held every Friday nights from 5pm-10pm at the Shipyards in lower Lonsdale (by the seabus terminal). There are over 80 vendors, over 30 food trucks with great music and local artisans. Admission is FREE :)
idearabbit-northvanmarket idearabbit-northvanmarket2 idearabbit-northvanmarket3The atmosphere is different from the Asian flair of Richmond night markets. Here local artists are featured and a spectacular view of the night skyline of downtown Vancouver if you come on a nice evening. The area isn’t big, but there’s lots to enjoy for the entire family.

Parking is easy to find on the streets, though you may have to do some hill walking. Or you can take the seabus.

If you’re looking for something to do on a Friday night, check out Twilight Markets!
