Finch’s Tea & Coffee House

Finch's Tea & Coffee House on UrbanspoonI met up with a friend for coffee and wanted to check out Finch’s, so we did. I had read so many good reviews, so I was looking forward to finally come here.

A hipster-ish, grundgy looking cafe where the walls are falling apart (my friend and I think intentionally), though not too sure about all the wallpaper peeling from the ceiling. The tables and chairs are kind of random and scratched up spoons and tea cups like they were gathered from different yard sales.

The cashier wasn’t friendly, made no effort in making eye contact, nor said any thank you after payment. We first sat by the window facing south. But it was really hot on a summer day, so after some tables cleared, we moved to a table by the window facing West. It was cooler and more spacious, but the music was really loud in that corner, making it extremely hard to converse with my friend. The tea was good (don’t know how tea can go too wrong…) and the scone was good. As more tables cleared, the staff came by to take our plates. The guy just took my tea even though there were some left without asking. I thought that was so rude.

I know these hip, rough places are ‘in’ and ‘trendy’ right now, but I have never gotten into them. I was relieved to find out my friend had the exact same taste – I guess that’s why we’re friends :P .

The cafe is always jam packed with every table taken and people lining up for take out. Wow! Which is why I thought it was good. But to my disappointment, it didn’t live up to our expectations. I’ve read that their sandwiches are good. I wouldn’t mind trying, though I’d take out if I did. But thinking of having to deal with the staff is a turn off. With so many great cafes in downtown, I don’t think I will be returning!
