Hungry Guys Kitchen

Hungry Guys Kitchen Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoThank goodness for Hungry Guys Kitchen! They are simply the best salad place in town! I’m surprised by the low ratings on Zomato.

This place has a line up during lunchtime, so go a bit early, or have a late lunch as it seems like many of the office workers go here for a healthy lunch.

I always get the custom salad which comes out to $6.82 (incl tax), and the portion is really generous! It’s the cheapest salad for the quality and quantity compared to anywhere else I know. I’ve never had to pick up brown leaves or veggies that looked sketchy which I’ve come across with Subway or Tim Horton’s salads.

You get to choose 2 bases:

  • organic mixed greens
  • chopped romaine
  • baby spinach
  • shredded kale
  • organic arugula
  • white rice
  • brown rice
  • organic quinoa

I always get kale and quinoa.

Then 4 toppings;

  • local red beets
  • shredded carrots
  • onions
  • cucumber
  • fresh basil
  • red peppers
  • tomato
  • fresh cilantro
  • edamame
  • chickpeas
  • local apples
  • dried cranberries
  • tortilla chips
  • roasted broccoli
  • fresh mint
  • pumpkin seeds
  • sunflower seeds
  • red cabbage
EXTRAS
  • bacon [add $1.3o]
  • shredded cheddar [add $1.30]
  • blue cheese [add $1.30]
  • hard boiled egg [add $1.30]
  • goat cheese [add $1.30]
  • avocado [add $1.3o]
DRESSINGS
  • HGK dressing
  • maple balsamic dressing
  • miso + sesame dressing
  • red wine vinegar
  • blue cheese dressing
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • lemon basil

I usually get carrots, red beets, roasted broccoli and zucchini. I don’t get the proteins, and just put in my own tuna from a can, or chopped up ham. I also have a bag of dried cranberries (much cheaper). Last but not least, the dressing. I’ve tried their HGK dressing and lemon basil.

They also are focused on getting local, sustainable, free-run, responsibly raised, free of GMO, free of – artificial flavorings, colors, sweeteners, trans fat, preservatives – ingredients. Their bowls and utensils are biodegrable too. The interior of the restaurant is pretty cool too. Lots of greens and open. Good food, good role models for the food industry and good prices. Two thumbs up.

Gallery Cafe

Gallery Cafe Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoAfter living in downtown for so long, and visiting the gallery several times, I don’t know how I missed going to this cafe. It can be easily missed as it is on top of the gallery.

The cafe was pretty bare. It had an European cafe feel, and had a high-end charm. We each had a piece of dessert with Coffee $2.25. Nice presentation! The chocolate cake was really creamy and tasty. Mmmmmmm!

Since it was warm, we sat out on the patio. Definitely would come back again for sure!

Fortune Garden

Fortune Garden Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoOur boss took us to Fortune Garden for lunch. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. It’s a mid sized restaurant with a very simple boxy layout. Since we’ve returned several times, this posts included review from several visits.

idearabbit_fortunegarden1 idearabbit_fortunegarden2Tea is not complimentary! I didn’t know the first time, but the second time we went with 2 persons, it was $1.60, so not sure if it’s $1.60/pot or $0.80/person.
idearabbit_fortunegarden10Steamed Scallop and Prawn Dumplings $5.75

Yum!! I love this! So did my co-worker. The prawns and scallops were juicy and plumpy. A big thumbs up. Would love to just order a bunch of these, lol.

Xiaolongbao $5.75

Served in a small bamboo steaming basket, there were 4 pieces of dumpling inside. Unlike some places that don’t seem to have enough juice inside, this one was pretty good. One who loved them also complimented on them.

Fortune Garden Special Chow Mein $14.25

A fairly large portion with lots of plumpy, fresh ingredients. I LOVE crispy chow mein, and it’s surprisingly hard to find as not every Chinese restaurants offer them. This had to be one of the best ones. Not too salty – perfect for me. I would love to order just this for my ‘take-out’ lunch for myself next time. The second time we ordered though, there weren’t that much sauce, and it wasn’t that crispy. My boss was disappointed the second time.

idearabbit_fortunegarden8Rice Flour Roll in Soy Sauce $6.75

My co-worker liked this one after trying it for the first time. Simple, but filling, and with some added chili sauce to spice it up a bit, it’s pretty good. She always orders this every time we go back.

idearabbit_fortunegarden5Greens

Every Chinese restaurant has this dish, and every time, I wish I had knives to cut them into bit-size pieces. Still, the veggie is great. Nothing special as it’s just steamed without added flavouring, but it’s nice to take a break from the overly savourly dishes. It also goes great with just about every sauce from other dishes.
