Hungry Guys Kitchen

Hungry Guys Kitchen Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoThank goodness for Hungry Guys Kitchen! They are simply the best salad place in town! I’m surprised by the low ratings on Zomato.

This place has a line up during lunchtime, so go a bit early, or have a late lunch as it seems like many of the office workers go here for a healthy lunch.

I always get the custom salad which comes out to $6.82 (incl tax), and the portion is really generous! It’s the cheapest salad for the quality and quantity compared to anywhere else I know. I’ve never had to pick up brown leaves or veggies that looked sketchy which I’ve come across with Subway or Tim Horton’s salads.

You get to choose 2 bases:

  • organic mixed greens
  • chopped romaine
  • baby spinach
  • shredded kale
  • organic arugula
  • white rice
  • brown rice
  • organic quinoa

I always get kale and quinoa.

Then 4 toppings;

  • local red beets
  • shredded carrots
  • onions
  • cucumber
  • fresh basil
  • red peppers
  • tomato
  • fresh cilantro
  • edamame
  • chickpeas
  • local apples
  • dried cranberries
  • tortilla chips
  • roasted broccoli
  • fresh mint
  • pumpkin seeds
  • sunflower seeds
  • red cabbage
EXTRAS
  • bacon [add $1.3o]
  • shredded cheddar [add $1.30]
  • blue cheese [add $1.30]
  • hard boiled egg [add $1.30]
  • goat cheese [add $1.30]
  • avocado [add $1.3o]
DRESSINGS
  • HGK dressing
  • maple balsamic dressing
  • miso + sesame dressing
  • red wine vinegar
  • blue cheese dressing
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • lemon basil

I usually get carrots, red beets, roasted broccoli and zucchini. I don’t get the proteins, and just put in my own tuna from a can, or chopped up ham. I also have a bag of dried cranberries (much cheaper). Last but not least, the dressing. I’ve tried their HGK dressing and lemon basil.

They also are focused on getting local, sustainable, free-run, responsibly raised, free of GMO, free of – artificial flavorings, colors, sweeteners, trans fat, preservatives – ingredients. Their bowls and utensils are biodegrable too. The interior of the restaurant is pretty cool too. Lots of greens and open. Good food, good role models for the food industry and good prices. Two thumbs up.

Nu Nu’s Sandwich Bar

Nu Nu's Sandwich Bar & Catering Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato For lunch, I was craving sandwich, but I didn’t want to go to Subways. I wanted a good wholesome comfy-food sandwich. I decided to try out Nu nu’s.

It was a small, hole-in-the-wall shop with two staff. The Chinese woman was doing most of the work, taking orders, making food, and handling cash. She spoke with an accent and super fast and not clear, so I had to listen carefully. At one point when she was talking about the panini, I didn’t really know what she was talking about. When she later on said the same thing to the next customer, I figured she said something like the paninis are already made on the side. I saw them afterwards and they looked pretty good, though the late summer sun rays were beaming on them…

The Chinese woman never smiled or was friendly in anyway, which was a turnoff. She wont give you your receipt, so if you need it, you’ll have to ask for it. I had gotten use to seeing Subway staff always make the sandwiches with gloves. This woman was handling cash and then making my sandwich with her bare hands. I didn’t catch her washing nor wiping her hands or anything…

idearabbit-nunus1 idearabbit-nunus2 idearabbit-nunus3I ordered the Ham and Cheese $6.75 (old price – has gone up, I paid $7.75 with taxes) The sandwich was really good. My boss said “Woo, that looks really good. Where’d you get that?” It tasted healthy, fresh and the light honey mustard gave just enough punch, but still not drown the natural flavours of the veggies.

The brochure is light, fun and energetic. The cartoon illustration of the Chinese lady is happy on the cover, but that’s not what you’ll get in reality.

Good sandwich! Mediocre service.

Second Time

Again, slow and mediocre service.

This time, I tried the grilled Turkey and Avocado Panini which was too small for price (around $8.50). The taste was simple and good though…

Cafe Bica

Cafe Bica Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoI drove by this cafe once and thought it looked modern and trendy, so I thought I’d drop by to pick up a lunch on the weekend. The black colour and the red metallic chairs for accents told me that some design thought went into the creation of this cafe. The interior had the natural wood of the counter and the vintage tables that helped the place give it a slight hipsterish feel.

idearabbit-cafebica idearabbit-cafebica3 idearabbit-cafebica4The ready made wraps and sandwiches were nicely presented behind the glass at the counter and they all looked pretty healthy. The staff wasn’t that friendly I found which was a turnoff in such a nice cafe. She wasn’t rude, but not welcoming. I ordered the Roasted beef (about $10). The lettuce was fresh, and the melted cheese went really well with the beef. Good portion too.

Very trendy. I like the food and atmosphere. Could work a little more on the service.
