Buddha Full

Click to add a blog post for Buddha-Full on ZomatoI met up with my friend who is pretty health conscious, especially when it comes to food, so I thought this place would be the perfect place to grab a bite. I was curious about the place, but was happy to hear that she enjoys their smoothies. They serve organic and gluten free food/juices and opened in 2010. The place is a bit hidden, and can easily be missed – I walked by it (though on the other side of the road)

idearabbit-buddhafull1 idearabbit-buddhafull2 idearabbit-buddhafull3 idearabbit-buddhafull4I decided to get their Fried Samosa $3.95. If you wanted to go healthier and get the Baked Samosa $4.50. For drink, I got the One Love $6.50 (14oz) which was really dark burgundy.
It was a hot summer day, and the cafe inside was sweltering hot and humid. After we picked up our orders, we took it outside onto the patio. There were several ants crawling on our chairs, and flying ants…
The heated samosa was really, really good. The size was quite generous and the softer shell than most other samosas I’ve had made it easier to eat. I would definitely come back for these.
The drink was rich. It had strawberries, pineapple, orange, beets with rose water. It seemed like all the goodness was juiced into one cup. Super dark colour that could easily dye, so watch out light-coloured clothes!
Service was satisfactory. The interior has a a couple of tables with seats and with a shop that included things like soap, jewellery, candles, etc.

Gopan – Rice Bread Maker

sanyo_gopan

Are you not able to enjoy eating any bread made from regular flour (wheat)?

Well no more worries!

Sanyo Electric began selling GOPAN, the world’s first bread maker that can make bread from regular grains of rice! Now that’s amazing! Just throw in some washed rice with water, salt, sugar, and shortening, dry yeast. Then, press START, and in about 4 hours, viola! Rice bread is ready!! And it seem like it does’n’t taste like ‘rice’. It’s a bit more chewy than flour rice, but from the reviews, it seems to taste pretty good. The machine is sold for approximately $600 in Japan. Hopefully, this will spread worldwide and will be available here as well.

European Breads Bakery: Wheat-free & Gluten-free

European Breads Organic Crepe Cafe & Bakery on Urbanspoon

A new bakery opened up awhile ago in downtown that sells wheat-free and gluten-free bakery! I found out about them on some deal sites, they were doing 50% discounts, so I jumped right in on the opportunity. European Breads Bakery has been open for many many years at the 4326 Fraser St location. But they’ve opened up another one in the heart of downtown on 1262 Burrard St. (and seems to go with the name European Breads Organic Crepe Cafe & Bakery). This location doesn’t seem to have good ratings. Not sure if it’s because it’s still new (and only 13 voted), or since it didn’t seem to have a lot of variety. (but then again, I haven’t been the the one on Fraser, so can’t really compare)

Ratings (out of 5)
Location:
carrot3carrot3carrot3  (it’s great for those that live near Davie and Burrard are, but perhaps not so much if you come by car…)
Cost: carrot3carrot3carrot3 (I think reasonable for the quality, natural ingredients, and care they put into making food gluten-free) A loaf costs about $4-5. Apple rice muffin is $1.95 + tax = $2.18)

Customer Service: carrot3carrot3 (meh. It’s alright. Definitely not like a Starbucks service. I find most of the time I walk in, they don’t acknowledge me, or ask me what I want, they may talk to each other while I’m waiting at the counter right in front of them)
Stock: carrot3 I’ve gone there 5 times which 3 times, they were out of the muffins I wanted. They don’t have a lot of variety at certain times…
Tastecarrot3carrot3carrot3carrot3 the rice muffins are great!!! One muffin I believe has only 2.8 g sugar, and it’s certified organic. Warm it up in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.
