Starbucks at YVR Airport

Starbucks Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoBusy with a line up, you can take time to decide on what you want. Sheepie and I were quite early for our flight to Frankfurt Germany, so there wasn’t any rush.

For the first time, I decided I’d get a sandwich from Starbucks, along with a Passion Iced Tea.idearabbit_starbucks_yvr1

idearabbit_starbucks_yvr2I got the Black Forest Ham and Swiss sandwich $7.69. The bread was cold and super thick. It was dry and hard. It wasn’t delicious. I could have made a better sandwich. The price was ridiculous for what you got. I’m never buying another sandwich again from Starbucks. In fact, I’m not a huge fan of their drinks anymore either. I find it too sweet and artificial. I would even become even more reluctant to drink anything from them after being spoiled in Germany.

Liquids + Solids

Liquids + Solids Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato Since I was taking a yoga teaching course every weekend in the area, I was out trying out a different venue each weekend. This time, I thought I’d try Liquids + Solids on Broadway for lunch. I ordered the Montrealer $8.45 with locally made corned beef piled high with sauerkraut, pickles and provlone with mustard and scallion bread.

Service was ok. I expected the cafe to be a bit more lively, but maybe the lighting made it seem a bit low-energy, the staff was quiet, and being it a weekend lunch hour, it wasn’t very busy.

They seemed to have a wide selection of soup available, so if I feel like soup one day, I might give the place another try.

Burgoo on Main

Burgoo on UrbanspoonAfter my guitar lessons through VSB, I met up with Sheepie for dinner at Burgoo on Main. I had been to the one in North Van, so it wasn’t the first time going to a Burgoo, but first time to the one on Main. Like the one in North Van, it was packed and busy, even at 9:30pm on a weeknight. It was loud, hip, grungy and mostly filled with young 20s to late 30s. Sheepie wasn’t fond of the noise level as he is super sensitive to sound. He wasn’t really into the grungy, rustic look either. It’s just not his thing :P .

I walked in and waited. Nobody came to greet me for a while until a friendly young guy came up and asked if I had been helped. When I said no, he apologized for the wait.

Our server on the other hand was a cold girl, though we did get our orders taken and food brought as expected. She was also a bit rough with refilling our cups with water, almost spilling on our phones on the table.

We ordered the After School Special $16.50 which allows you to pick a sandwich and soup of your choice. We chose the Tastiest Chicken sandwich $15 (roasted free run chicken, bacon, Brie and diced apple with onion jam and Dijon mayonnaise, served open faced on toasted house baguette) and Sunset Corn and Chicken soup $8.50 (corn, free run chicken and light cream spiked with Chipotle and cumin, finished with crema fresca and cilantro).

The soup was whole hearty, flavourful and filling. Very yummy! The sandwich was pretty big and although tasted really good, it was a bit difficult to eat. The crust was super hard to cut even with the knife that was provided. It had way too much mayo for my liking. The $3 flatbread was nothing special.

Overall, the dining experience was ok. Service wasn’t all that great, but the food was quite tasty. I suggest getting the combo deals. If you’re into hipster-ish places, you’ll enjoy the atmosphere and their comfort food.
