Timbertrain Coffee Roasters

Located in the trendy area of Gastown, the interior continues this nostalgic, vintage look. The booths are creatively designed so that the seats can be shared from both sides.

I ordered the Latte $4.50. It was super creamy and super flavourful. It was good as coffee in Europe, which is hard to find in Vancouver. Nicely done latte art too.

My friend who seemed to know a lot about coffee asked detailed questions about her coffee. The staff was very knowledgeable.

Must return again!

Boulangerie la Parisienne Yaletown

On a Friday after work, Sheepie and I were walking around Yaletown looking for a nice cafe. We came upon this small, corner cafe, and though we were a bit worried on how it was completely empty while the rest of Yaletown was bustling with people, we gave this place a try.

I had the Chocolate African $4.79.

Sheepie had the Chocolate Truffle and a Small Latte $3.25.

The sides were completely open giving it an open patio, but sheltered feel.

I was extremely disappointed in the cake. It seemed like it was really fluffy with cream, but to my dismay, it was literally like rubber. The lady fingers tasted chemical. I should have stopped eating it right away. I kept trying and forcing myself, considering I paid nearly $5 for this slice of cake. Unfortunately, I could barely finish half. It tasted disgusting. It was the worst cake I’ve ever had in my life.

Sheepie’s cake was also super hard. It was just gounache that was solid. It was rich, but I wouldn’t call it a delicious cake. I gave my cake to him, but even he, who has a sweet tooth couldn’t finish it. It wasn’t edible.

I’m not sure about the coffee, Sheepie kind of drowned it in brown sugar, so it was super sweet, covering the coffee flavour. Service was satisfactory.

Both of us felt really unwell for several hours afterwards. Will never return!

Bean Around the World in Yaletown

This cafe is fairly spacious and open for a spot in Yaletown. It was slow Saturday noon. I had a course nearby that I was taking, so I came here for a quick bite.

The service was OK. Maybe it’s the low lighting and dark walls, but it seems to affect the staff. It was very low key and almost lethargic atmosphere (the photo below has been lightened).

However, the tables, sofas and booths are all spaced apart, and with so little customers, you could enjoy some privacy.

I ordered the Chicken Fajita $5.95 and a London Fog $3 (small) with Tazo teabags. The fajita was spicy, and was ok. (as you can see, the lighting makes the food look kinda depressing)

The London Fog was pretty good. I love their cup design. I’ve noticed that they got rid of their old logo that was red, green and black. I was not a fan! Although I’m not super stoked about their new one, it is a huge improvement. The subtle writing on the cup is a lot more creative and personal.
