Naan Bites

Naanbites on UrbanspoonDuring the Boxing Week, I decided to go check out the Queensborough Landing in New Westminster. The parking lot was packed, and I was quite surprised to see so many outlets. After spending hours shopping, we were hungry, so we went to try out Naan Bites.

I had the Curry Rice Bowl (with Butter Chicken) $7.99 I was shocked at the difference that I and Sheepie’s order had. He had only paid a dollar more and he had a complete full meal. I wished that I had ordered his instead, though I am not complaining about the taste of my curry, it was pretty good, but not worth $8 for the bowl!

idearabbit-naanbites3This is such a better deal! $8.99

Sheepie had the Tiffin Thali (with one meat; Chicken and one veggie; Paneer Makhani curry) $8.99 along with a Pop $1.19 The curry was very tasty and a better deal than mine.
The place is fairly clean, and service is ok.

Yak & Yeti Bistro

Yak & Yeti Bistro Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato I had a Groupon and so Sheepie and I went for dinner. I wanted to try their specialty which was the Yak Momo. Unfortunately, the voucher required us to get an entree each, so Sheepie ordered the Masala Fish $15. A dish served with local fish semi-stewed in Himalayan-style curry with assorted vegetables. It was buttery and rich. Very delicious!

idearabbit-yakyeti idearabbit-yakyeti2 idearabbit-yakyeti3I had the Jackfruit Curry $14 which had green jackfruit cooked with bell peppers, onions, basil and special Himalayan spices. This was also very good, but I have to admit, I did like the Masala Fish better.

idearabbit-yakyeti4Tingmo $3

Both entrees comes with rice which quickly filled us up.

The server recommended trying Tingmo $3, so we ordered one. It was like a cinnamon bun, but not sweet. It was interesting, but since I’m not much of a bread person, I gave most of it for Sheepie and enjoyed my rice instead.

The place has a really nice chill-out atmosphere, inside and out on patio. It’s clean and well kept. Sheepie approved. It wasn’t busy, so it was nice to enjoy a quiet dining experience. The service was satisfactory.

Would love to come back again to try different dishes, especially the Yak Momo!

Penang Delight

Penang Delight Cafe 馬來檳城美食 on UrbanspoonA narrow restaurant that was jam packed with people lined up. Luckily, we had reservations, though we did have to wait about 10 minutes. The waiting area is extremely cramped and uncomfortable.

As we sat at our table, we were shocked to see the server at the other table pour some of the tea from their pot onto the table to ‘clean’ it after the dishes were cleared off.

Unfortunately, my seat was right where the AC was blowing at my forehead. It was unpleasant considering I was a bit sick with low fever that day. But even if I was well, I am not a fan of sitting in direct wind of ACs.

Roti Canai (crispy Indian style pancake served with curry dipping sauce) $5.95 I found the roti greasy and oily, though it did taste alright. I found it to be pricey for what you got.
idearabbit-penangdelight3Hainanese Chicken $13.95. Steamed Hainanese chicken didn’t really wow me. In fact, I wasn’t a huge fan of it. The pieces were too large, and without knives provided, eating it was a bit of a challenge without making a mess. The chicken itself was nicely cooked, but the all the skin and fat is not my favourite part. The sauce did go well with it, but I thought the chicken itself could have had more seasoning to start of with.

idearabbit-penangdelight5 idearabbit-penangdelight4Deluxe Curry Platter (curry chicken, rendang beef and rendang lamb) $21.95 and steam rice $. This one is quite pricey for the quality and quantity. I found the meat to be hard and dry. The Rendang beef from Banana Leaf is super soft, juicy and just melts in your mouth. It is soooo good! This in comparison was really bad. Hence, I mostly ate the potatoes from the curry chicken portion.

The bathroom was dirty and not taken care off. By the bathroom, there were food trays out in the hallways with food and old dishes. The service was mediocre. They weren’t happy but we did get our tea fills and food as expected.

I didn’t enjoy much from this restaurant so I don’t think I’ll be returning.
