IHOP at Brentwood Mall

IHOP on Urbanspoon

To try something different from the food court at the mall, my coworker and I went to IHOP inside the mall. It was only half full during rush lunch hour.

The food is filling, but it’s not as appetizing as it looks on their website.

Reality…

The crepes were soggy from drowning in sauce, the food wasn’t real cooking, in terms of complexity. It’s expensive for ordering simple poached eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. Nothing is done to it.I have read that it’s this location that is bad, so perhaps I need to try elsewhere where it has higher ratings.

Denny’s on Davie Street

Denny's on UrbanspoonThis Denny’s is open 24 hours a day! Even through the Christmas holidays! So Sheepie and I went on Christmas Eve close to midnight.

I had the Turkey + Stuffing for around $12. There were lots of side dishes to choose from. I chose hashbrowns and squash+zucchini. It came with two super greasy toasts…blah. The turkey was dry and chewy. The gravy was good, but SUPER salty and ended up drinking 4-5 cups of water afterward. Wow, I was extremely thirsty. Not only that, but I felt nauseous  with a bit of abdominal pain. Perhaps because of the time of day, and the amount of greasy food intake. I don’t know how much calories I just ingested.

Sheepie had the Bird Sandwich. which was dripping with oil as he ate. He didn’t feel all that great either after he finished.

The jukebox (when someone puts money to play) can be quite loud, but once it goes back to the regular radio in the background, it’s ok.

Our server was very friendly and cheery despite having to work so late on Christmas Eve. However, the food was so unhealthy (something I have been avoiding for several years), but Sheepie used to like this place. But as his eating style has slowly changed for something healthier (my influence hehe), I think we can take Denny’s off our list of restaurants to go to. Sorry Denny’s.

ABC Country Restaurant 158th Street – CLOSED

ABC Country Restaurant on UrbanspoonMy co-worker and I were in the neighbourhood on a project and decided to dine at ABC Country restaurant. As soon as we we walked in, it felt different from the Vancouver atmosphere. I’m not sure if it’s because of the location…or it was just a gloomier atmosphere. It air and interior felt like I was back in a restaurant in Calgary (not that I’m saying it’s a bad thing). My co-worker also spent some time in Calgary as well, so he knew the feeling too.

I’m not sure why I ordered something so boring. Maybe it was the prices that deterred usand we weren’t all that hungry so we both ordered the Two Eggs any style. I had the eggs poached and  with diced hash browns and fluffy pancakes. For what it was, how it was presented, and the quality of the food, it was overpriced even though we had chosen one of the cheapest dishes.

It wasn’t too appetizing and it felt like it should be those cheap morning breakfast on the corner for $3.99 or something.

I thought we’d never come back, and sure enough, it closed down. Two others have closed down and the ones which are still running have really terrible ratings. ABC better change, or they’ll be completely out of business very soon.

They do however, have a very cool website.
