Bubble World in Richmond

Bubble World Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato A group of us had just played the Murder Mystery Game that’s popping up in Richmond (the one we went to was Freeing Canada) and we wanted to grab a bite afterwards, so we headed to Bubble World. It was quite full and busy, but we managed to get a 8 person table right away.

I had the Beef Noodle. It was decent size, but I find it to be drowning in the sauce. It wasn’t anything extraordinary – not something I would order or come back for.

Sheepie ordered the Three Sauce Chicken $7.95. Good price for the portion, but the veggies were cold, the chicken was boney – not the kinds that we like. Sheepie kept complaining it was garbage.   We both don’t really like oily, greasy meat dishes that are full of bones and fat. It’s just our preference. My Chinese friends love those pork knuckles…argh…no no for me.

idearabbit-bubbleworld idearabbit-bubbleworld2 idearabbit-bubbleworld3The interior was fine and had a decent seating capacity. Not much to say about service. Some of the other’s dishes, especially the hot pots looked quite impressive, though can’t really comment on the taste. The slush that some ordered were huge! Wow.

Return
A friend brought us back for a late afternoon ‘lunch’. We got a table right away, as the staff pointed to a table on the other side of the room.

idearabbit_bubble-world20 idearabbit_bubble-world21I ordered the Pork Dumplings $4.95. It didn’t come out nicely as it did in the photo from the menu, but still, it was plenty for a pretty inexpensive price. It was juicy, and the sauce and dumplings would have definitely gone well with some rice! Service was ok. The place was kept orderly and clean despite the busy atmosphere.

White Spot in Richmond

White Spot on UrbanspoonWe went to meet up with Sheepie’s friend in Richmond. But since we were early, we decided to dine at White Spot – in Richmond. Yeah, I know. With all the great Asian restaurants in Richmond, what am I doing going to a place like White Spot? But meh, I felt like having some Western food, so off we went.

We were greeted by a staff and were taken to our table. I passed a few tables that were left uncleaned. Compared to other White Spots I’ve been, this place seemed a bit more run down, or not organized. There were paper towels scattered on the bathroom floor as well. The restaurant was not fully packed, and I saw enough staff, so I wasn’t sure what was going on.

Our server was friendly, and I ordered the Chicken, Broccoli with rice $11.99. She asked if I wanted brown or white rice and I said ‘brown please’. Unfortunately, it came with white rice instead, but I didn’t complain. We were on a time budget, and I was hungry. It wasn’t like I couldn’t have white rice. I just wanted brown for healthier options.

nut_allery_allery_icon_smallThe salad that came with it did have almonds. That is however a problem. I don’t recall anywhere stating that it had nuts in it. A problem for those who are allergic to nuts! I just avoided the almonds and gave them to Sheepie. The chicken broccoli was in a creamy curry like sauce, and I poured it over the rice. No points for presentation though. But mmm…tastes pretty good. Sheepie ordered the 6 oz Korean Burger with fries $13.99 and Diet Coke $2.99. I had a bit of his fries.

idearabbit-whitespotChicken, Broccoli with rice $11.99  idearabbit-whitespot3Nice bowl of salad, loaded with sunflower seeds, yum! But warning to those with nut allergy! This salad has almonds!idearabbit-whitespot2
Korean Burger with fries $13.99 – not sure what’s so Korean about this burger…

When we received our bill, our server mentioned that if we did an online survey for tonight’s dining experience, we would get a $5 coupon for our next meal. Of course, there was fine print when I actually did the survey…

*Offer valid for 30 days upon completion of the survey. $5 off coupon valid on your next visit for dine-in only at participating White Spot Restaurants. Minimum purchase of $30 per party of two. Receive $2.50 off for a single diner, with $15 minimum purchase. Not to be combined with any other promotional offer. Excludes alcohol. Limit one coupon per party of two per visit. Limit two survey entries and two coupons per guest per week. Server code ‘$5 Online or $2.50 Online.’

Ok, so I did the survey. Mostly because I wasn’t too happy with the mess and rice mistake. I can’t recall if I mentioned about the almonds and how there should be some notice to dishes that have nuts in them in the survey…

Anyways, I don’t think I’ll return to this specific White Spot in Richmond. I prefer the ones in downtown.

Ebisu in Richmond

Ebisu on UrbanspoonThe restaurant closes at 11pm and we got there around 10 past 10pm. We were told that last call was in 10 minutes, but that was fine as we figured it wouldn’t take too long to decide what we would want to order.

I ordered the Ninja Kicker $5.50 for 4 pieces. It had prawn tempura, cucumber, avocado, spicy tuna, slamon, Tobiko, and green onions. It was spicy, but nothing really to note about the taste. Satisfactory. Nice presentation and colourful.idearabbit_ebisu_richmond3

Negitoro roll $3.95 was satisfactory, though with presentation, the sushi restaurant likely wouldn’t survive serving sushi with rice coming out and bits and pieces stuck on it.idearabbit_ebisu_richmond2The small Tuna Tataki $6.95 was refreshing with a variety of greens. Sheepie didn’t really like the sauce too much, but I thought it was fine. Again, nicely presented with arrangements and colours

The Agedashi Tofu $4.95 was good.idearabbit_ebisu_richmond5

Despite the pieces of the large Rainbow roll $9.50 (8 pieces)  falling apart when you tried eating it, the taste was satisfactory. Again, sushi falling apart wouldn’t sell well in Japan, but then again, they don’t have these fancy rolls over there in the first place.

The service was good, although it was a bit annoying that different servers kept coming to our table to ask the same questions like “did you already order?” “we’d like to let you know we’re doing our last call” Um…yes, we’ve been informed twice before already…we know. But the Japanese staff were quite patient with us even though the restaurant was closing and Sheepie started up a conversation with the table next to us.

The manager looking man must have heard him talking about Sheepie coming from Germany in that he said “Danke” as we left the restaurant.

This location has a more ‘comfy’, and ‘casual’ feel compared to the one on Robson which is more modern, slick and upscale. However, the food, prices and service are decent.
