Steamworks

Steamworks Brew Pub Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato Steamworks is a fairly large pub located steps away from Waterfront station. The first floor separated into bar and dining. Downstairs, its got a more grungy feel with a pool table and loud customers enjoying the night. I’ve been there several times, sometimes with large meet up groups, or other times with just a friend. The food has been generally good.

We were there on a Monday evening around 9:30pm. We got seated fairly quickly considering how busy it was. We also had a huge number of people – like 12, so I thought we’d had to wait a while. But since it was a large place, it didn’t take them long before we were escorted downstairs.

As soon as we sat down, one of my friend ordered her dish right away since she had to leave asap. That was a good idea because after that, the server never came to get our order. Seemed like forever…

After I ordered STEAMWORKS award winning chili , the server came back telling me that they were out of chili since kitchen was closing down. Whose fault is that? It took so long for them to take our orders, and to report that back to me. I ordered the tandoori chicken salad $14.99 which my friend had ordered first. She was long gone by then.

Tandoori chicken salad $14.99

The chicken was really good! Great salad and crispy chips but terrible service! I can’t believe I left tip! However, this is probably an exception – I hope! I’d recommend going there – it’s got good food and atmosphere.

Milestones on Cambie

Milestones Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato So after going to eat at Sake Maki on Broadway, we went for dessert at Milestone. We originally went to the Cheesecake etc. but it was full house with people waiting in a line up. We both don’t like crowded and noisy places so there was no hesitation to turn around and look elsewhere.

I drive by this Milestone everyday from work, and had been attracted to the cool lights…hehe…like moths to a light bulb…lol.

The restaurant is split into a lounge/bar and table/booths. It’s really roomy and very modern. High-end, slick and targeted for the young, urban professional. The lights are very moody, but the right ambience. Not too dark nor bright. They even had a private room as well. This location is on the second floor, but it has an elevator, so it’s wheelchair accessible.

The hostess greeted us and asked us if we were there for dinner or dessert. We replied ‘for dessert.’ Then asked us whether we wanted to sit in the lounge or booths. We chose booths. Most of the cake slices were around $7. There was a Milestone’s Dessert Shots set for $10.99 that really looked good (in the photo), but unfortunately, it seemed that most of them contained nuts (damn…hate having this nut allergy!)…so instead, I was told that the Decadent Duo $10.99 was the safest bet with the 2 cheesecake.

I wouldn’t recommend this dessert if you have a really severe nut allergy. The 2 cheesecake comes on one single plate. The chocolate cheesecake is full of nuts. I had the white creamy one. All I can say is “it’s way too damn sweet” and that’s not in a good way sweet. I felt I was just scraping off from a lump of sugar…argh… The only thing I liked were the strawberries and whip cream… I couldn’t even eat 1/3 of it. Not my cup of tea…

I’ll defintely be returning to Milestone again, but one thing I’ve learned about most western desserts is that they are often way too sugary for my liking…and for anyone who wants to avoid becoming diabetic!

Subeez – CLOSED

Subeez on UrbanspoonThis was my third time being there, though the other 2 times, it was during the day, so it was a different atmosphere. It’s nice to see that they finally got a real menu, since the first time I was there, it was just a legal size printed paper that was crinkled.

The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in, and were seated in a booth. The friendly server took a while to come to our table, but it wasn’t dreadfully long or anything, so no complaints. The decor in this restaurant is quite unique. It’s not so much my style…a bit garage, grungy, hipster or gothic feel. Seems like a lot of local artists get to put up their artwork on the wall. Not sure if they’re on sale or not, but good to see the support either way. The music was a bit too loud for our liking…we’re the type of people that doesn’t like shouting over the table to hear each other. It was dark and moody, with candles lit at every table, which was nice.

Their menu before…

Anyways, I had a Groupon coupon for $10, (it was originally $20, but the voucher expired…so back to $10). I didn’t find there were much selection to choose from…especially anything healthy, except maybe the salads. We ordered the nachos $13 (ah! I know…very unhealthy >_<)

The food came fairly quick (though I can’t imagine nachos taking too much time and effort to prepare). I found it way too salty…the sour cream and chopped up tomatoes and onions on the side were good. However, for $13 it wasn’t anything spectacular. I remember Boston’s Pizza’s nacho platter being way more bigger and delicious (though that was before I become more health conscious, so who knows how I’d rate it now)

For me, it’s not the type of food or setting I like, so I likely wont be going back unless a friend wants to go or something. However, the service was pretty good.
