Idea Rabbit Business Cards from Jukebox Print

It’s heeeeeeeeeeeeere!!! Idea Rabbit business cards!! Hurray! Jukebox Print recently had a promo for 250 for only $22!! I couldn’t resist the bargain, and I also wanted to know how my cards would turn out. I have used them through a company I worked at before, but nothing for my own projects.

The promo was for $22 (originally around $100?)
-250 business cards at standard size 3.5″x2″
-colour on both sides
-with bleeds
-on 20 pt cardstock
-silk matte laminate finish
-digital printing
-3 to 4 day turnaround

I didn’t want to pay for shipping so I decided to go pick up myself from their office in Gastown. It was my first time going to their office. It was in a run-down building, but as soon as I opened the door on the second floor, it was like another dimension, with colourful walls that corresponds with their brand identity. They are open Monday to Friday 9-5, and Saturdays 9am-12:30pm. Since I work during weekdays, it was nice to have the option of going in on the weekend.

At the entrance of Jukebox Print

There was a young lady behind two large Mac computers at the reception desk. She took my printed order number and went in the back to find my order. Exciting!!! I anxiously waited as I looked at their samples on their window sills. Once she came back with my order, she asked me if I wanted to check them. I opened the box and viola! 250 of Idea Rabbit cards! :D I was a bit worried if 20pt would be thick enough, but it was pretty sturdy and a good thickness. The colour seemed saturated, which made the printed images stand out even more. Even though it was digitally printed and not on a press, the images were clear and crisp. What I loved the most was the texture!! It was this velvety, smooth fuzzy surface. It felt unique, and you just want to keep rubbing it LOL.

Once I started handing them out to people, they were impressed by the price and quality, but the number one thing they mentioned was the feel of the surface.

I asked the receptionist if she had the free Recycled sample pack that is advertised online, but she said you have to go online to order it. Bummer…it would save them postage $…and I could get it right away…oh well. Not a big problem.

Now it says 3 to 4 days turnaround, but for me, from the time I ordered to when I received the email that it was ready for pick up was 12 days. So if you’re looking for a rush, this may be a problem…though I vaguely remember in the order process that you may be able to indicate when you wanted the order to be done by (not sure if there is extra cost to this). Since I was in no hurry, I didn’t indicate any deadlines.

Since I was at the Jukebox office, I picked up some of their printed samples of work – impressive and unique!

I SOOOO happy I got them done at Jukebox Print. Their online chat system is a huge bonus since I always have a lot of questions for different projects and they are always very helpful. They are constantly adding new stock and unique feature for whatever creative project you may have.

Love you Jukebox Print!

Momo Sushi House on Bidwell

Mo Mo Sushi House on Urbanspoon

This is the smallest Momo Sushi location – all run by Koreans. It’s an easy to miss sushi-ya, almost hidden on Bidwell St.  Some prices seem to be even cheaper than the other two. There are only about 10-12 seats inside, and a table for about 4 outside during the summer, so not good for large groups. It’s usually full with some waiting for take outs.

The price is really inexpensive – $6 for bento box. Service is prompt and friendly. Water or tea is self-serve.When we dine in, we will usually get a small soup that goes with the bento combos with 2-3 strings of udon in it. I find it a bit too salty and usually don’t end up drinking the whole thing.

It’s a good place if you want to get yourself filled up for really cheap. This is my least favourite location because it is the most run-down and feels super cramped. They did do a bit of renovation earlier this year though – however, it seemed like it was done themselves, so nothing spectacular in the changes.

I suggest doing take out if you live near by.

I had once instance where the spicy tuna looked off, and tasted bad. I shouldn’t have eaten them…I only had a roll and a bit of the three, but later on, I knew I shouldn’t have even touched it! BLAH~~~ also, that take out took forever…waited along time.

Months later, my friend also took out, again waiting for a long time. However, the percentage of long take outs versus quick ones are very low, so don’t think that it’s always slow. However, that time too, he also said the quality was really low.

Since then, I have avoided going to Momo – this one in particular since there are many other choices in the downtown area that are competitive in price and quality.

Tartine Bread & Pies

Tartine Bread and Pies on UrbanspoonMon – Sat 7:00 am – 8 pm
Sun 7:00 am – 6 pm

A friend of mine had seen this cafe as he did his daily jogging route and wanted to check out the place. It was nestled in the quiet neighbourhood of Yaletown-ish area away from the busy streets and crowd of pedestrians (though I guess that’s not a good location then for a cafe…) It was close to empty, but it did have an on going flow of customers coming in and taking something out.

We ordered the coconut cream pie $3.75, a cookie $1.50 and iced latte $3.25.

Not sure if the staff wanted to treat us since it was already in the evening,
so perhaps they wanted to get rid of the pie since it was going to go bad anyways. Well, the piece we got was huge!! Never seen a cafe serve such gigantic piece of pie! Even with both of us, we couldn’t finish it. Well, that was perfectly fine, because I had more from it later in the night..kekeke…I couldn’t resist! It was SO good! Yes, I know, 90% was just cream…so unless you’re a cream person like me, you might hate it.

The crunchy texture of the coconut shreds inside and the sweet flavour of coconut went so well with the cream…I’m haven’t been a cake person since going on a healthier diet a 2 years ago, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to go back for some more…it’d be interesting to see if that is the ‘normal’ size, or if it was just a ‘bonus’ that day.

HUGE pie piece!!! YUM!

As the name suggest, their specialty is in pies. They have a wide range of selections from Bumbleberry, New York Maple Cream Apple, Sour Cherry, Raspberry Sour Cream, Raspberry Rhubarb, Pumpkin Pecan, Double Crust Lemon, Peach Praline, Chocolate Pecan, Strawberry Rhubarb, and the list goes on. You can get most of them for $3.75 a slice or $18 whole.

The iced latte wasn’t sweetened – so that was really good. I don’t like when drinks come already loaded with sugar (like with Timmy’s or McDonald’s)

The two staff that was there was very friendly and welcoming. It’s got a nice patio up in front where we sat. I’d love to go back and try their sandwiches and stuff…and of course more pie! :D

2nd Time

I’ve been back here twice to get the coconut cream pie, both times with disappointment that they didn’t have it made that day. On the fourth time, they didn’t have coconut cream pie again, so went with the lemon pie and coffee.

Not sure what happened since the first time we were there. Perhaps that day was great? Or was this time just terrible? The pie fell apart, and looked gross. The taste was nothing spectacular. Coffee was terrible, so watered down and Sheepie complained it smelled like an ash tray with water. There were bits of coffee floating around.

It was in February and they didn’t seem to have any heat on, so we were freezing.

However, none of this seem to bother anyone else as it was packed and busy at 6pm on a Tuesday. The staff were friendly, but if it was the first time coming here, I would never return again. I am reluctant to go back again with the constant disappointment that the coconut cream pie isn’t there (yeah, a bit obsessed? lol). But this experience just killed their image. I will give them one more chance. If they want the carrot I docked off, they better live up to the first impression! :P
